My Philosophy
Drawing on my expertise and empathetic approach, I am dedicated to helping you navigate your therapeutic path with confidence and ease. In every session, you will feel the infusion of my warm, holistic, and organic style. I will support you in re-discovering the magic and wisdom that lives within you.
Working With Me
We will proceed at a pace that feels natural for you, and work together to alchemize your suffering into resilience.
I’m not going to bullshit you: Some sessions can be challenging. That’s just the nature of the work. Some sessions, however, can actually be fun! I bring my sense of humor to my work, and I will connect with you on a person-to-person level. I allow my human-ness to shine through while creating a safe, empowering, and relaxed environment. I would be honored to be your wild sage as you navigate this journey.
Meet Sara
Background
I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. I went to college at the University of Redlands in southern California, where I attended the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ecopsychology. I then moved to Boulder, CO to attend Naropa University, where I earned a Master of Arts in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology. After graduating, I lived in Denver for 9 years before moving back home to St. Louis.
Career
In addition to several years of experience in private practice, my professional career has included working on a sexual assault crisis line, counseling survivors of intimate partner violence, working at a shelter for womxn experiencing houseless-ness, and six years at a community mental health non-profit. I have also supervised colleagues working toward their LPC and LAC licenses.
Personal
In my free time, you can find me enjoying the outdoors, cooking, swimming, voraciously reading, working on my own soul’s evolution, water skiing, and enjoying live music. I am intimately connected to mother nature and to animal beings, and I am a proud mama to the two best cats and the most amazing dog in the universe. I’m a recovering perfectionist, and am working on living the most heart-centered life I possibly can.
What's In a Name?
When I was brainstorming names for my practice, I knew I wanted something meaningful and nature-based; something that reflected both the grounded and expansive ethos of my work.
‘Sage’ felt fitting as a double entendre for both the healing plant and a person who is acknowledged for their wisdom and insight. It’s also a nod to the fact that plants and fungi are powerful teachers.
‘Wild’ captured my belief in creativity, coloring outside the lines, and our need to reconnect with the natural world and the true essence of ourselves. Thus, ‘Wild Sage Counseling’ was born.
